AMMOLITE is the trade name for the iridescent, shell layer of specific fossil AMMONITES found in the Bearpaw Formation of Late Cretaceous age (70-75 million years ago) unique to Canada.

After polishing multiple thin layers of this natural gemstone has heavy matrix lines running throughout and shows off the rare color combination (blues, purples are the most rare). This material gemstone will create a beautiful array of rainbow colors that shine from all angles and are predominantly composed of soft aragonite (3 1/2 – 4 on the Mohs scale).
